Hello Community, It’s time to update, and this is what’s going to happen: Whispering Island | Update Log 3.
In this post, we will list the current progress of the game: Whispering Island. As announced in Update Log 1 and Update Log 2, our main goal is to set up a playable first demo on Itch.io to get your opinion and feedback. After that, the logs will be available on Itch.io and on this page.
Please note that the video footage was taken at an early stage and does not yet provide a reasonable user experience for everything.
Overview
Building Islands + Mystic Island
As teased in Update Log 2, the construction of islands and bridges has already been on the cards. Now there is also a mystical new island that provides new resources. Simply magical! (Now that we have an island, we can also show the functionality :))

Basic Cutscenes + First Tutorial
Now that we’ve laid some groundwork for the player and built many important features, it’s time to enhance the experience with cutscenes and tutorials to get you off to a better start.

For the cutscenes, we decided to use Nathan Hoad’s Dialogue Manager. This provides us with the basics of dialogue, translations and dialogue-dependent function calls. This makes it easy to create and manage cutscenes.
Updated Inventory – Stats & Equipment,
What are tools you can’t equip? Useless! Below we have added tools that give you certain bonuses, such as faster extraction of trees or stones.
From a technical point of view, we have also decided not to use drag and drop anymore and have switched to click and point. (e.g. Minecraft)

Furnace + Chest Updates
There are now crates! that you can use to collect the output of machines. Of course, the user interface is also included. The oven now also has a user interface.
As an additional feature, you can activate and deactivate machines. When enabled, you cannot edit slots yourself. When disabled, the user can allocate slots as required using the resources provided. However, these will only be processed when active. This means that buffered resources can be melted first.

Additional Changes
After update log 2, the buildings, belts, items on belts, items in machines and crates have now been extended for saving and loading. Also for equipped items, of course.
Other features such as multiple languages and customisation options are also work in progress. Further plans for achievements and item research – which will provide more crafting recipes and processing options – are also in the pipeline.
Future Steps
The most important thing is that the first demo comes after Itch.io, so that we can get proper feedback. But before that, we still have a few things on our to-do list to make sure the demo is appealing and playable for players.
Once the first demo is available on Itch.io, detailed change logs will be made available. A lot of things are in flux at the moment, so many ideas get discarded or small things get changed.
